(1)

Roof tiles to be sound, will-burnt, whole and free from cracks and blemishes. Approximate sizes to be:-

 

(a) Plain Tiles 225 x 225mm)

 

(b) Roll Tiles 165mm long and tapered

 

(c) Valley Tiles 305 x 225mm

(2)

Roof tiles shall be laid on cement mortar and cement 1:3.

(3)

A nails to be aluminum or galvanized steel nails.

(4)

Plain tiles to be laid to 115 or 75mm gauge.

(5)

The number of pan and roll tiles per 10m2 of roof tiling shall be as follows (single layer):-

(6) Bed corners of tiles in mortar dabs. Roll tiles to be laid with 50mm lap with both edges in mortar and cover with similar mortar minimum 15mm thick, trowelled smooth. On wood battened roofs, drive nails into battens and leave projecting 15mm as key for mortar dabs.
(7) Verges to be finished with mortar fillet, trowelled smooth.
(8) Form ridge or hips with row of inverted tiles, with rows of roll tiles over. Form valley with special tiles. Bed in mortar with cover with similar mortar 25mm thick, trowelled smooth.
(9) Finish eaves with double course of tiles where necessary.
(10) Cut and fit tiling at abutments and around pipes etc and finish with a mortar fillet, trowelled smooth.
(11) The Contractor is also required to submit full details of his proposal showing the construction methods to be used for the roofing works for the approval of the Engineer. Such approval shall in no way relieve the Contractor of any of his responsibilities for the roofing work. Samples of Chinese roof tile shall be submitted to the Engineer for approval. The colour scheme shall match the overall village theme of the Sewage Treatment Plant.
(12) The Contractor shall provide a guarantee that the roofing executed shall remain free from defects and watertight for a period of ten years from the date of completion of the Contract.
